Summary of Sen. Obama's NEA speech

This is the first Political Bear Speech Summary I have posted. This is what I am going to do for any speeches that people request............and any that I can possibly find time to go through. I will also be posting them on my website Political Bear

National Education Association Annual Meeting
Philadelphia, PA July 05, 2007

• Education is good

• Race is an important fight regarding education
o The recent Supreme Court case was bad

• Education is more important than ever and we are getting worse

• Teachers are most important
o Politicians must back you

• Idea of NCLB is good
o Not supported by current administration

• I don’t support blaming teachers

• We need more teachers
o They need more power/stuff

• I will invest billions

• I believe in collective bargaining

• Parents must take a role

• I will stand by you in the fight to educate our children

Summary: Really the first and last talking point should be removed from this summary since they will appear in every candidates speech, but it is kind of funny to include them to see how ridiculous it looks. The only thing that Sen. Obama really says here is that the current administration is bad and he will spend billions for education. The rest is more like a student council election. He wants to give the teachers more money, power of the subject material they teach, more say in their schools, less accountability.....generally he want to make recess longer. Ah. Presidential politics.
